Dear friends,
I spoke to a friend about a topic a few days ago and wanted to share it with you.
We talked about the importance of the Guardian in relation to the Universal House of Justice from the book The World Order of Bahá’u’lláh by Shoghi Effendi.
There are two paragraphs on pages 81 and 82.
"He cannot override the decision of the majority of his fellow members, but is bound to insist upon a reconsideration by them of any enactment he conscientiously believes to conflict with the meaning and to depart from the spirit of Bahá'u'lláh's revealed utterances . . . "
From this explanation it becomes clear that the flawlessness of the Universal House of Justice depends only on the presence of the Guardian. If the decision of the Members of the Universal House of Justice were flawless, it would not have been necessary to say:
“. . . but is bound to insist upon a reconsideration by them of any enactment he conscientiously believes to conflict with the meaning and to depart from the spirit of Bahá’u’lláh’s revealed utterances."
It is one of the reasons that Abdu’l-Baha says in his Will and Testament:
"It is incumbent upon the members of the House of Justice, upon all the Aghsán, the Afnán, the Hands of the Cause of God, to show their obedience, submissiveness and subordination unto the Guardian of the Cause of God."
It means that if the Guardian says this decision is inconsistent with the spirit of the Baha'i Faith, then the members of the Universal House of Justice must accept and obey.
On page 81 it was also mentioned:
"Without such an institution the integrity of the Faith would be imperiled, and the stability of the entire fabric would be gravely endangered. Its prestige would suffer, the means required to enable it to take a long, an uninterrupted view over a series of generations would be completely lacking, and the necessary guidance to define the sphere of the legislative action of its elected representatives would be totally withdrawn."
Here again the necessity of the presence of the Guardian in relation to the members of the Universal House of Justice becomes clear "and the necessary guidance to define the sphere of the legislative action of its elected representatives would be totally withdrawn."
From these two paragraphs we can see very clearly that only through the Guardian can a Universal House of Justice function and be flawless.
Thank you!
Ali
